The University Center for Human Values invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Values and Public Life. We aim to appoint a highly promising scholar trained in contemporary political theory to provide support for programs in the University Center for Human Values and to carry on a research agenda in his or her area of specialization.
The successful candidate will undertake a research project exploring a contemporary normative problem arising in domestic or global public life. The candidate will be expected to teach one course in the Center’s undergraduate Values and Public Life (VPL) certificate program, subject to sufficient enrollment and approval by the Dean of the Faculty. When s/he is teaching, the candidate will hold the additional title of Lecturer. In addition, the postdoc will conduct two sections of a non-credit senior thesis workshop under the supervision of the VPL faculty director. He/she will also provide some support for and participate in the Center’s Democracy Project.
Qualifications
Applicants must have completed the requirements for the Ph.D. by August 1, 2015 and must not have held the degree for more than three years by that date. They may not be employed by another institution during the term of their Princeton appointment.
Applications will be evaluated on the basis of the applicant’s previous accomplishments, experience relevant to the undergraduate certificate program, and the promise of the proposed research project. Their capacity to contribute to the Center’s teaching program will also be taken into account.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Normative Theory

Program overview:
The Institute of Technology and Society (ITSrio.org) invites researchers, graduate students as well as professionals working with technology policy, to apply to its Global Policy Fellowship Program and spend four weeks* in Brazil at ITS. Last year, we welcomed six fellows from all over the world, who contributed immensely for the success of the Fellowship Program. (See the list of our 2014 fellows here, and what they have to say about their experiences here).
Our Global Fellows will have the opportunity to work with the team who created and developed the landmark “Marco Civil” legislation, a bill protecting fundamental rights, including privacy, net neutrality and freedom of expression, approved as law in Brazil in April 2014. ITS will offer the opportunity to work with research in the five broad areas, namely:
Law, democracy and technology (dealing with topics such civic engagement, online participation, and others);
Access to technology, justice and human rights (dealing with topics such as connectivity, accesibility, digital divide and others)
Internet regulation and Internet governance;
Privacy and data protection (dealing with topics such as big data, anti-survailance, data protection and mass surveilance);
Rethinking culture, media and education (working with topics such as intelectual property, digital entrepreneurship, art & technology, online teaching, and others).
The ITS Fellowship Program will offer the opportunity for those interested in internet and technology policy to deepen their knowledge about the Brazilian technology context. We have prepared an intensive 4-week* program for our fellows, which include visits to the biggest technology national and international companies operating in Brazil, the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br) and visits to São Paulo and Brasília, including meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Culture, and Congress members who are advocating for policies related to internet and technology.
During their stay, selected fellows will be expected to:
Present at least one public seminar, organized in partnership with ITS. Suggested topics can include: broadband and access policy, content regulation, copyright and creativity, consumer privacy, open government, government surveillance, data security, data innovation, freedom of expression, democracy and technology and human rights.
To publish at least one article or webpost about their experience as a fellow in Brazil.

Salary Range:

The Rotman Institute of Philosophy invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Foundations of Physics. The Fellowship will provide a new scholar in foundations of physics with a unique opportunity to pursue his or her chosen areas of scholarly research in collaboration with physicists and philosophers. For suitable candidates, it may be possible to hold a Postdoctoral Fellowship jointly between the Rotman Institute and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.
The Rotman Institute of Philosophy is situated in one of Canada’s leading departments of philosophy. It brings together philosophers and scientists to work on problems of global significance. Rotman faculty include two Canada Research Chair holders, and within the philosophy of physics, faculty pursue special interests in the foundations of quantum mechanics, history and philosophy of space-time theories, and the philosophy of cosmology, as well as in connections between physical theory and general questions in methodology, epistemology, and metaphysics.
The Postdoctoral Fellowship in Foundations of Physics has a one-year term with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The Fellow will be supervised by faculty from the Rotman Institute of Philosophy. She or he will have an office within the Rotman Institute. Fellows are required to involve themselves fully in the research life of the Institute by conducting research leading to peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, and by participating in conferences, research groups, reading groups, and outreach activities.

The Brain and Mind Institute and the Rotman Institute of Philosophy at Western University in London, Canada invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Philosophy of Neuroscience. The Fellowship will provide a new scholar in philosophy of neuroscience with a unique opportunity to pursue his or her chosen areas of scholarly research in collaboration with neuroscientists and philosophers.
Western's Brain and Mind Institute is a leading international centre for cognitive neuroscience research (http://www.uwo.ca/its/brain/). Ongoing research seeks to understand the neural bases of mental abilities such as perception, memory, reasoning, attention, self-awareness, motor control, language, and consciousness. The faculty includes six Canada Research Chair holders and the recipient of a Canada Excellence Research Chair.
The Rotman Institute of Philosophy is situated in one of Canada's leading departments of philosophy. It brings together philosophers and scientists to work on problems of social significance. The faculty includes two Canada Research Chair holders; ongoing research focuses on a variety philosophical problems arising in contemporary physics, biology, cognitive neuroscience, and medical science.
The Postdoctoral Fellowship in Philosophy of Neuroscience has a one-year term with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The Fellow will be co-supervised by faculty from the Brain and Mind Institute and the Rotman Institute of Philosophy, and he or she will be affiliated with a lab in the Brain and Mind Institute and will participate in a program of ongoing neuroscience research related to his or her own philosophical interests. The Fellow will have an office within the Rotman Institute. She or he will be required to involve themselves fully in the research life of the Institute by conducting research leading to peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, and by participating in conferences, research groups, reading groups, and outreach activities.
Candidates must have had a PhD in Philosophy conferred within five years of the start of the Fellowship. All PhD requirements must be completed by the starting date of this Postdoctoral Fellowship, July 1, 2015. The stipend is $40,500 CDN. Additionally, the Fellow will be provided a research allowance of $5,000 CDN.
