This survey course reviews social issues and the ethical impact of information technology throughout the world. The course examines the policy issues that relate to the use of information technology, such as persona, privacy, rights of access, security, transborder information flow and confidentiality. CMSC 304 is a required course for all computer science majors at UMBC. The CSEE Department anticipates two offerings of the course in each of the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 semesters. Trinity College invites applications for the Raymond Pryke Chair in the Margaret MacMillan Trinity One Program at the Assistant Professor level commencing July 1, 2014. This is a three-year appointment and is renewable.
The chair holder will be the director of the Trinity One program and will work towards its development and growth. He or she will teach in the program and will be its public face.
The Margaret MacMillan Trinity One program provides first- and second-year students with the opportunity to explore major issues and ideas pertaining to human life and world affairs, while in a small-group environment conducive to deep discussion and interaction. The program has an International Relations stream, an Ethics stream, a Public Policy stream, a Science of Health stream, and a Health Science and Society stream, each comprising two full-year seminar courses and a co-requisite course. All are at the first-year level, except for the Science of Health and Health Science and Society streams which occur over the first two years. Qualifications:
Applicants must have a Ph.D. or the equivalent. Area of specialization should be in one of the following areas: ethics and literature, or ethics and political theory (Ethics stream), history or political science of international affairs (International Relations stream), public policy and the public good, or public policy in practice (Public Policy stream). The College is seeking applicants with superior teaching abilities and with experience teaching in the humanities or social sciences at the university level, preferably including first-year-seminar teaching. Candidates with experience in the administration of an academic program at the university level are preferred. Evidence of competence in research will also be considered.

Position Summary:

General Responsibilities:
The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty as outlined in the college faculty handbook.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Have a master's degree from an accredited institution, completed by August 1, 2014, in philosophy; OR, a bachelor's degree in philosophy AND a master's degree in humanities or religious studies; OR, the equivalent.* OR, hold a California Community College Instructor's Credential in the discipline area.
