Under the general supervision and direction of the Social Science Division Dean, the primary responsibility of the person assigned to this position is teaching courses in the disciplines of Religion and Philosophy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities may include, but not limited to the following:
1. Instruct courses in Religion and Philosophy to meet the educational requirements stated in the credit course outlines.
2. Assist the Division Dean in cooperating with campus and community groups to provide programs, courses, and information relevant to the needs of the students and the program.
3. Assist the Division Dean in the preparation of required reports by providing requested information.
4. Participate in the departmental process of curriculum review and modification.
5. Complete various reporting procedures as required for student evaluation, course reporting and budget development.
6. Attend various departmental, divisional, and campus-wide activities as stipulated.
7. Participate in departmental, divisional and campus-wide committees as part of the shared-governance process.
8. Participate in divisional committees as assigned by the Division Dean.
9. Perform other necessary duties that assure the smooth functioning of the Social Science Division, as assigned by the Division Dean and as outlined in Board Policy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Religious Studies:
• Master's in religious studies, theology, or philosophy OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in humanities OR the equivalent.
AND
Philosophy:
• Master’s in philosophy OR Bachelor’s in philosophy AND Master’s in art history or humanities OR the equivalent.
• Demonstrated teaching experience.
• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience in teaching postsecondary courses, especially at the community college level.
• Experience in teaching survey courses in religion and philosophy.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different levels of students' ability and learning styles.

The Princeton University Center for Human Values seeks candidates for the Harold T. Shapiro Postdoctoral Fellowship in Bioethics for an anticipated opening in September 2011. The Shapiro Fellowship supports outstanding scholars studying ethical issues arising from developments in medicine or the biological sciences. The search committee particularly encourages proposals focusing on problems of practical importance that have broader theoretical interest.
The Harold T. Shapiro Postdoctoral Fellowship in Bioethics was created in 2002 to provide an opportunity for an outstanding scholar to spend from one to three years at Princeton to further their scholarship and participate in the University's teaching program.
The postdoc will spend the term of the appointment in residence at Princeton conducting research and teaching the equivalent of one course each year. The postdoc will participate in the Ira W. DeCamp Seminar in Bioethics and will be invited to participate in the other activities of the University Center for Human Values.
The term of the fellowship is one year, beginning September 1, 2011, with the possibility of extension for up to two further years. The holder of the Johnson Professorship will have a record of significant scholarly publication that explores how individuals and ideas shape the course of history. This new endowed professorship is one of several university-wide initiatives funded by the Johnson Program in Leadership and Integrity. The Johnson Professor in the College will join the current Johnson Professor in Entrepreneurship and Leadership in the Williams School of Commerce, Economics and Politics. The Department of Philosophy at Mount Allison University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in philosophy. Candidates should possess, or be nearing completion of, a PhD in philosophy and have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and to research. The successful candidate will have a specialization in analytic philosophy broadly construed, along with grounding in the full tradition of the history of philosophy. Flexibility in teaching a variety of undergraduate courses is expected. For example, the incumbent might teach introductory philosophy, logic, an upper-level sequence in the history of philosophy or of analytic philosophy, and one upper-level course in the philosophy of law, Islamic philosophy, or a special topics seminar in analytic philosophy.
