The Department of Philosophy at the University of New Brunswick Fredericton campus invites applications for an eleven-month teaching term appointment at instructor level to begin August 15th, 2010. The successful applicant will have a PhD in hand or near completion and will be expected to teach six course (three per semester), including upper-level undergraduate courses. Ability to teach in the areas of philosophy of mind, and philosophy of technology is an asset, as is a strong record of teaching excellence.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The successful candidate will be prepared to teach Business Ethics, and Health Care Ethics and general introductory philosophy courses. Desire and willingness to teach philosophy/ethics to introductory community college students. Teach a total of 30 credit hours of courses per academic year (normally balanced over fall and winter semesters). Participation in division and college governance and demonstration of ongoing educational and professional growth are expected.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s degree in Philosophy from an accredited institution of higher education is required by time of hire. Area of specialization should be in applied or professional ethics
2. Demonstrated current and ongoing professional growth, as well as a commitment to student learning.
3. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCES CONSIDERED:
1. Ph.D in Philosophy from an accredited institution of higher education.
2. Substantive multicultural experience (for example: urban community service, academic course work in minority or foreign language studies, or teaching experience with minority students).
3. Ability to teach in a variety of formats, including on-line and/or using technology as a learning tool.
4. College teaching experience at the introductory level.
