The Department of Philosophy at the University of York wishes to offer one (and possibly two) Graduate Teaching Scholarships to support students working towards a postgraduate research degree in the Department. The scholarships will provide valuable teaching experience for those intending to pursue an academic career.

Any potential candidates who have not already applied to the Department’s postgraduate research programme must do so separately before the closing date for these scholarships (see: www.york.ac.uk/philosophy/postgraduates/).

Successful candidates will teach up to 6 hours a week in seminars and tutorials for first-year undergraduates during term time, mark student work and assist in monitoring the academic progress of first-year students. Training will be provided.

Scholarships start at £7,000 p.a. and rise by £500 increments each year for the period of the scholarship. A fee waiver at the home rate is also included. Subject to satisfactory performance and academic progress, scholarships last for up to three years. The scholarships on offer start from 1 October 2014.

The Department of Philosophy at Dalhousie University invites applications for a full time sessional term position at the Assistant Professor level, effective 1 August 2014, subject to budgetary approval. The position will be tenable for a ten-month term in each of two years (from 1 August 2014 to 31 May 2015, and from 1 August 2015 to 31 May 2016). Areas of specialization: Metaphysics, Epistemology. Areas of competence: Early Modern Philosophy, Philosophy of Mind.

The successful applicant will teach courses at introductory, intermediate and advanced undergraduate/graduate levels, with some limited graduate student supervision and committee work. Excellence in teaching and research is required. Applicants must hold (or be about to receive) a Ph.D. in Philosophy. Salary will depend upon qualifications and experience. Course load will be 3 and 3.

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship to be held at the University of Toronto Centre for Ethics during the 2014-15 academic year. We welcome candidates with substantial normative research interests from diverse backgrounds including philosophy, law, and the social sciences. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in theories of distributive justice, moral psychology, or ethics in cross-cultural perspective, but we welcome all applicants with a strong interest in normative theory.

The successful candidate will teach two single-semester courses for Trinity College, participate in the seminar and workshop series at the Centre for Ethics, and help to develop an inter-disciplinary ethics community across campus. The appointment term is from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015, at a combined research and teaching stipend of $42,500 per year. Applicants must have completed all requirements for their PhD by June 30, 2014. Candidates must also be no more than 3 years from the awarding of their degree, and cannot have accepted or hold a tenure-track position.
