The Centre for Metaphysics and the Philosophy of Culture of KU Leuven's Institute of Philosophy and the Faculty of Architecture of KU Leuven welcomes applicants for one fully-funded two-year PhD-Fellowship, renewable for a second period of two years, in Philosophy of Art on Architectural Theory. The PhD-fellow will work in the research context of the Centre for Metaphysics and the Philosophy of Culture (KU Leuven's Institute of Philosophy) and the research group Architectural Cultures of the Recent Past (KU Leuven's Faculty of Architecture).
The project for which the funding is available aims to develop an analysis of the connection between religious and philosophical concepts and the theoretical discourse on architectural modernism from the period 1945-1970. The project situates itself on the crossroads between intellectual/art history, philosophy and theology. It has both a historiographical and a conceptual aim. The fellowship is part of the project Apocryphal and Apostolic Modernism. Forgotten Connections between religion and architectural modernism, 1945-1970, funded by the Research Fund KU Leuven. The successful applicant will write a PhD-dissertation within the overarching theme of aesthetics and architectural theory. The project is chaired by Prof. Stéphane Symons and by Prof. Rajesh Heynickx.
Start date: 1 February 2015 or as soon as possible.
We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:
• The motivation to pursue creative work in aesthetics and architectural theory;
• An explicit interest in the following research questions; In what way has religious thinking, mostly of Catholic origin, influenced the theoretical discourse on architectural modernism? and In what way did non-religious, philosophical and aesthetic concepts influence the theoretical discourse on religious architecture?
• An MA (or equivalent) in Philosophy, Art History, Intellectual History, Cultural History, Architecture or Theology and academic distinction;
• The ability to present research results at conferences, and to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
• The ability to play an active role in the research group (including its seminars);
• An excellent command of English; proficiency in French and/or German; a willingness to learn Dutch is a plus;

The Foundational Research Institute ( http://foundational-research.org/ ) is a new nonprofit research organization devoted to reducing suffering in humanity’s future. We combine insights from artificial intelligence, technology, anthropic reasoning, international relations, sociology, public policy, ethics, animal welfare, and many other disciplines.
We’re looking for a research fellow or intern who will explore one or more of our topics of focus -- drawing connections between academic insights and their implications for altruism and reducing suffering. The Civilization Sequence Program (CVSP) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for two positions at the Assistant Professor rank, and one two-year position as a Visiting Assistant Professor, all beginning on September 1, 2015. Applicants should be able to work within an interdisciplinary program and combine disciplinary interests in two of the following fields: history of ideas, comparative literature, and/or Arab/Islamic studies. The program has an interest in candidates who cover the classical epochs or the early-modern period. The CVSP is a service program that offers a number of interdisciplinary undergraduate humanities courses. Course load is normally 3/2 over a two-semester year. The language of instruction is English. Successful candidates for these positions must be prepared to teach core courses from the ancient to contemporary periods in addition to courses close to their own research fields within the overall CVSP mission. They are also expected to contribute to other interdisciplinary initiatives at AUB.

The Johns Hopkins University seeks an internationally recognized leader as a tenured, endowed Bloomberg Distinguished Professor in Philosophy and Cognitive Science. This position is one of 50 new Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships designated for outstanding scholars who carry out interdisciplinary research and teaching in areas identified for significant growth at the University. The current position is one of several linked to the University-wide Science of Learning Initiative, a current focus of the University’s capital campaign.
The position will include tenure in the Department of Philosophy and the Department of Cognitive Science, with full participation in their research, teaching, and service missions. The ideal candidate will have a deep engagement both with philosophy and with on-going theoretical or empirical work in the mind-brain sciences. She or he will build on the Cognitive Science Department’s existing strengths in language, vision, cognitive development, and foundations. International Affairs invite applications for postdoctoral positions in Values and Public
Policy. We aim to support highly promising scholars trained in moral and political
philosophy, political theory, normative economics and related areas to develop a
research agenda in the ethical dimensions of public policy.
Candidates selected will undertake a research project exploring a normative problem
arising in an area of public policy in which the Woodrow Wilson School conducts
research. They will be affiliated with a unit of the School that can inform and support
their work. They will also be invited to participate in programs of the University Center
for Human Values. Candidates will be expected to contribute one course each year to
the School’s undergraduate or graduate program on a topic related to ethical issues in
public policy, subject to sufficient enrollment and approval by the Dean of the Faculty.
Qualifications
