The Role

This post is full time and fixed term for 2 years.
The School of Arts is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Philosophy of Art and Aesthetics to contribute to the teaching and examination of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the History and Philosophy of Art Department, to make a substantial contribution to the research activity, intellectual environment and effective administration of the Department and School.

The Person

The successful candidate will have a PHD in Philosophy of Art, Aesthetics or a cognate area and experience of producing exceptional research, including the appropriate number of peer reviewed publications of 3* or 4* quality ready for submission to REF2014.

Broad knowledge of aesthetics and the philosophy of art in the analytic tradition, particularly in relation to the visual arts broadly construed is essential as is experience of research-led teaching within an HE environment.

The School of Arts is home to over 900 students, 40 academic staff, and 16 administrative and technical staff. The School comprises the Departments of Drama and Theatre, Film, and History & Philosophy of Art In Canterbury the School is housed in the award-winning Jarman building, which provides excellent facilities and a striking working environment. The Department of Philosophy at Dalhousie University invites applications for a 10 month Limited Term Appointment at the Assistant Professor/Lecturer level, effective August 1, 2013. This position is subject to budgetary approval. Areas of specialization: Metaphysics, Epistemology. Areas of competence: Early Modern Philosophy, Philosophy of Mind. The Department also needs classes taught in Understanding Scientific Reasoning and Intro.

The successful applicant will teach courses at introductory, intermediate and advanced undergraduate/graduate levels, with some limited graduate student supervision and committee work. Excellence in teaching and research is required. Applicants must hold (or be about to receive) a Ph.D. in Philosophy. Salary will depend upon qualifications and experience. Course load will be 3 and 3.

The Philosophy Department at the United Arab Emirates University invites qualified candidates to apply for a fulltime faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in philosophy to begin in the Fall Semester 2013 (August start). Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence, a demonstrable research capability that will enable the candidate to develop and sustain a research program, publish research findings in refereed journals or equivalent, and actively engage in promoting the growth of the UAE University. The Philosophy Department at UAEU is robust, dynamic and growing. It hosts a vibrant research seminar series, regional conferences, and world class visitors. The faculty are all active researchers in diverse fields. The primary duties of the successful candidate are teaching, research, and service to the university community. The main teaching load is in the university’s General Education program, particularly in courses on critical thinking and ethics. The application package should include a cover letter, a detailed resume, a brief description of current/future research activities, teaching philosophy, and courses taught. English is the language of instruction and communication. Review of applications will begin on 15 April 2013 and will continue until the position is filled.

Minimum Qualification: Applicants must possess a PhD degree in philosophy from an internationally recognized and reputable university. Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply; however, preference will be given to those with relevant university teaching and research experience in academic environments where English is the medium of instruction and protocol.
Preferred Qualification:Both AOS and AOC are open, but candidates with expertise in Islamic philosophy, history and philosophy of science, and applied ethics are especially encouraged to apply, in order to complement the expertise of faculty currently in the department. Competence in, experience with, and a willingness to use new technologies in teaching is highly desirable. This technology includes, but is not limited to, e-teaching platforms such as Blackboard, Moodle and iPads, and classroom technology such as SMART Boards. Experience in teaching in multicultural contexts, where most students are not native speakers of English, is also highly desirable.

The Department of Philosophy at Tilburg University seeks to appoint an out-standing candidate in the field of philosophy of science. The successful candidate will have developed an international reputation in the research area of philosophy of science, with a special emphasis on economics and/or the social and behavioral sciences.

The Department of Philosophy, which is a part of the School of Humanities of Tilburg University, is an internationally ranked and pluralist department whose core research areas are logic and the philosophy of science, general and applied ethics, legal philosophy, and German idealism. The successful candidate will become the head of the internationally renowned Tilburg Center for Logic and Philosophy of Science (TiLPS), whose scope has recently been extended to include general ethics. The profile and institutional embedding of TiLPS are based on an emphasis on philosophy of science as it applies to economics and the social and behavioral sciences. This orientation provides a basis for the commitment of departmental research to reflect on the normative and epistemological foundations of the disciplinary fields offered by Tilburg University, including economics, law, the social and behavioral sciences, and the humanities with special emphasis on cognition and communication, and on language, culture and religion.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching in the department of philosophy in philosophy of science, epistemology, and related fields, both at the Bachelor and Master levels. Additionally, she or he will con-tribute to service teaching in these fields in other schools of the university.

Your profile
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in philosophy with a research specialization in philosophy of science. The successful candidate will have: (i) a strong track record in academic teaching; (ii) good experience in supervising Ph.D. students; (iii) a strong track record of publications in internationally rated journals in philosophy of science and books with publishing houses of international standing; (iv) experience in obtaining research grants from funding agencies; (v) the capacity and the disposition to engage in interdisciplinary research within and beyond the School of Humanities; (vi) the capacity and the disposition to take on important administrative tasks in the department.

The successful candidate will have excellent command of the English language; if not Dutch speaking, she or he will be willing to acquire a working knowledge of the Dutch language within the first two years of appointment. The successful candidate must be prepared to move to the Netherlands, to the area where Tilburg University is located.

Employment terms and conditions
The appointment will be at the rank of tenured, full professor (fulltime). Tilburg University is rated among the top of Dutch employers and has excellent terms of employment. The Centre de recherche en éthique de l’Université de Montréal (CRÉUM) invites applications for its postdoctoral research fellowship (grant up to $27 000) for the period of the academic year 2013-2014. The length of the stay can vary depending on the dossier and the kind of research envisaged.

The mission of the CREUM is to contribute to research in ethics and to the quality of graduate training in all fields of ethics from meta-ethics to applied questions.

We encourage applications from researchers working on themes related to the research axes of the CREUM : ethics and economics, ethics and the environment, ethics and health, ethics and politics, meta-ethics. We also admit applications from other disciplines, provided their research is directly linked to questions in ethics.

The Université de Montréal is a francophone institution. Candidates must have sufficient knowledge of the French language to be able to participate in the activities of the centre.

General rules  :

- In order to apply, candidates must have obtained their Ph.D. after April 30, 2008.
