North Carolina State University seeks an established scholar to provide leadership for its interdisciplinary program in Science, Technology & Society (STS). The STS program provides crucial links among the University’s strengths in humanities, social science, science, technology, and engineering fields. The successful candidate will assume the directorship of the program and contribute to developing these connections further and integrating them more fully into the University’s identity. The University’s location in the state capital, and in the Research Triangle area with its multiple universities and research centers, provides a vibrant setting for STS research, outreach, and engagement.

Qualifications: Ph. D. in relevant field required. Candidates should also demonstrate an established research program directly relevant to the interdisciplinary STS field and appropriate for a tenured position in one of the participating departments: Communication, English, History, Philosophy & Religious Studies, Sociology & Anthropology, and Political Science/Public & International Affairs. A commitment to interdisciplinary research, pedagogy, and program development is essential. department with recognized research excellence in many areas of Philosophy,
including ethics, social and political philosophy, aesthetics, and mind and
cognition. We are seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Lecturer
who will be actively engaged in our teaching programs and will develop the
research profile of the Department. The appointee will contribute to

The postdoc will conduct research on historical and/or systematic aspects of infinite regresses in philosophy. The position is situated within the research project on infinite regresses in epistemology, funded by the Dutch National Science Foundation NWO. The project is carried out in the Department of Theoretical Philosophy. Head of the project is Prof. Jeanne Peijnenburg.

Profile

Candidates for this postdoc position:
• have a Ph.D. in philosophy or in another field that is demonstrably relevant;
• have a background in, or familiarity with, the regress problem in epistemology or in the history of philosophy;
• have an excellent command of English and are prepared to present their research results in English;
• are willing and able to teach a small number of courses.

Conditions of employment

The University of Groningen offers a salary that is determined in accordance with the current scales as set out in the collective labor agreement for the Dutch universities (CAO) and has a range between € 3,195 and € 4,374 gross per month dependent on qualifications and experience. The position is temporary, with a maximum of three years (initial appointment of two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third year). A part-time appointment at 0.8 fte for four years is possible.

Full-time, two-year, non-tenure track position beginning Fall 2103. The position's main responsibility is teaching undergraduate courses in both philosophy and literature. The position carries a 3/3 teaching load, with an additional requirement to perform internal divisional work and to develop initiatives to promote the humanities at Drury University and in surrounding communities. The successful candidate will possess a solid knowledge of philosophical theories in ethics and an ability to teach ethics through an analysis of literary works would be additionally desirable, as well as solid knowledge of the literature of an historical period between antiquity and the Enlightenment (specific time period and cultural context open.) An ability to focus pedagogically on the philosophical and literary dimensions of such works is highly desirable. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, and an earned doctorate in either philosophy or literature, with a significant background in the alternate discipline.

Drury's Humanities Division boasts a highly collegial, collaborative, and interdisciplinary culture. The Division has seven majors, including philosophy, literature, religion, writing, communication, foreign languages, and history.

The successful applicant's cover letter will address the above areas, as well as the position's specific teaching needs, including a) a general education freshman seminar in an open philosophical topic, b) multiple sections of ethics, required by the general education curriculum, some of which should focus on philosophical theory, and some of which can focus on literature, c) a lower division survey of literature course, and d) a cross-listed philosophy and literature upper divisional seminar course on a literary period (between antiquity and the Enlightenment), taught with both target audiences in mind.
