Qualification and skills

PhD degree in Philosophy and substantial publications in reputable Philosophy journals are required. Candidates with a Master’s degree qualification in Philosophy will be considered for the post of Lecturer. Teaching experience, especially at the university level, will be an added advantage. Preference would be given to candidates whose areas of specialization are History of Philosophy, Applied Ethics, and Metaphysics. The successful candidate will commence duty in 10 September 2011.

Duties

The successful candidate will undertake teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in any of the above mentioned areas of Philosophy; supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students’ research projects; initiate and/or participate in research and seminar programmes in the department; and perform other duties including administrative, as would be required by the department from time to time.

The Opportunity
Join a research team, working on legal philosophy and constitutional interpretation, comprising Professor Jeff Goldsworthy, Dr Dale Smith and Dr Patrick Emerton. The Australian Research Council funded project aims to apply contemporary philosophy of language to the interpretation of written constitutions, particularly Australia's.

Candidates for the Postdoctoral Fellowship should have completed a doctorate in philosophy, with a specialisation in philosophy of language, at the time of appointment. Candidates with a doctorate in law specialising in constitutional theory or legal philosophy will also be considered. A record of published research is desirable.

The appointment is for one year full-time, commencing on 1 October 2011 (subject to negotiation).
