The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics invite applications for Assistant Professor in bioethics and public health. This tenure-track faculty member will have his or her academic appointment in any relevant department of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, including Health Policy and Management, International Health, Population Family and Reproductive Health, Epidemiology, Health Behavior and Society, Mental Health, and Environmental Health Sciences. This new faculty member also will be a core faculty member of the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics.

Applicants must hold a PhD, JD, MD, or equivalent. Applicants should: (1) have a solid background in bioethics; (2) have strong commitments to public/population health; (3) exhibit potential for a distinguished record of scholarship in bioethics and public health; (4) show promise for excellence in teaching; (5) show promise for ability to secure external funding; (6) show potential for collaborative and interdisciplinary work. Scholars from a variety of disciplines, including medicine, nursing, the social sciences, public health, law, philosophy, and economics are eligible to apply. The successful applicant will be mentored to develop an increasingly independent portfolio of scholarship and funding in bioethics and public health. This new faculty member will join other bioethics/public health faculty teaching and advising students in the PhD program in bioethics and public health/health policy.

Receipt of the fellowship is connected with admission to the Graduate School of An-cient Philosophy, a doctoral program based on a structure curriculum, which is affiliated with the Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies (BerGSAS) of the Berliner Antike-Kolleg.
Applicants should have an exemplary university track record. The most important qualification is an excellent background in logic; knowledge of Greek is also desirable, but not absolutely necessary. The doctoral fellowship will include a stipend of 1350 euros per month to be award-ed for two years, with an option to extend for a third year upon posi-tive evaluation. A child allowance will be made available in accordance with DFG guidelines.
In the research group, whose subject area deals with philosophical theories of spatial objects, the recipient should pursue an original research project on formal theories of spatial objects, with special attention to ancient philosophy. Position Characteristics:The successful candidate will be able to teach core philosophy courses in the department, including critical thinking, logic and epistemology. Area of Specialization is Epistemology (very broadly construed) with an Area of Competence in cognitive science, history of modern or philosophy of law. The department has teaching needs in the philosophy of law, philosophy of mind (broadly construed) and cognitive science. There will also be opportunities for mentoring in the department's Pre-Law Option. Teaching assignment is typically 8 courses a year (4 courses a semester with typically 2-3 preps) at the undergraduate level. Specific assignments will depend on department needs. Other duties will include, but are not limited to, advising students, participating in program development, and committee service at all levels of university governance. The successful candidate may be called upon to teach in a distance education mode and will be encouraged to develop web-enhanced and/or web-based instruction. Outcomes assessment and service learning are important components of the university curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the department and college.

Academic Preparation:An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Philosophy from an accredited institution is required by time of appointment.

Teaching Or Other Experience:Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to and potential for teaching excellence and scholarly activity at the university level. Candidates with a record of publications, presentations, and/or participation in grant activities are strongly preferred.
