Responsible for providing quality instruction to students through well prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear documentation of student progress, and support of the academic success for at-risk students.

•Teach assigned courses
•Adequately prepare all course materials and lessons. Note preparation time will vary based on instructor experience in teaching that course
•Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved, standardized syllabus
•Provide Interesting and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life setting
•Suitably challenge, engage, serve and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect
•Complete grade books, final grade sheets, learning assessments and final exam assessments on a timely basis
•Respond to student questions on a timely basis
•Identify and refer at-risk students to specific academic support services

Tenure track position in Political Philosophy

The position is part of the Rosalind Franklin Fellowship program. Appointment will start at the level of Assistant Professor. Following a favorable evaluation after at most five years, the fellow will be awarded tenure and promotion to the rank of Associate Professor. After a further five years another evaluation will take place and if this proves favorable, a full professorship will be awarded. The period after which tenure and full professorship will be awarded is at most five years each, but may be influenced by academic results of the fellow before and during the fellowship.

Area of specialization: political philosophy. Area of competence is open. Required qualifications include: A completed PhD in philosophy; a strong publication record; a willingness and ability to apply for Dutch and/or European grants for research projects; excellent didactic qualities. A candidate who is not a native speaker of English must be proficient in English to level C1/C2.

Abby Benjamin Postdoctoral Fellowship in Animal Studies

The Department of Philosophy at Queen’s University announces the new Abby Benjamin Postdoctoral Fellowship in Animal Studies. This is a one-year non-renewable 12-month fellowship. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated expertise in animal ethics, law and public policy, show evidence of teaching potential, and be able to participate constructively in departmental and collegial activities. While we interpret animal ethics, law and public policy broadly, and welcome applications from various disciplines that study human-animal relations including political science, law, philosophy, sociology and environmental studies, we are looking in particular for research that critically examines the moral, legal and political dimensions of how human-animal relations are governed. A recipient of the Fellowship is expected to reside in Kingston, to be actively involved in the day-to-day life of the Department, to teach a University course in animal studies, and to collaborate in developing initiatives related to the promotion of the analysis and understanding of animal rights (such as workshops, conferences, public lectures, etc.) The Fellow will work under the supervision of Prof. Will Kymlicka.
The 2013-14 fellowship will start on July 1, 2013. Applicants must have submitted their doctoral dissertation by that date, and must be within five years of having received their doctorate.
The salary for the postdoctoral fellowship will be $40,000, which includes remuneration for teaching a half-course in animal ethics or a cognate subject.
